Mayhem are touring Europe this fall. I presume they will be playing De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas in its entirety. Mike Alexander’s friend Jon Browning submitted a review of the Washington, DC date earlier this year. From Jon’s review, Euro headbangers can expect triggers from Hellhammer and sloppy lead guitar performances from the stand-ins.

Norwegian black metal band Ancient are touring Latin America later this year. Latin American headbangers should check them out. Hopefully Ancient will play none of the godawful black ‘n’ roll that came after Trolltaar.

Varathron are preparing to go into the studio next month to record a new album that will be titled Patriarchs Of Evil. The title is Varathron congratulating themselves on being the forefathers of the Root and heavy metal influenced Hellenic black metal sound. While the album may or may not be good, Varathron are still a potent force live so Canadian fans of actual black metal should check them out.

Obituary and Exodus are scheduled to tour the United States together later this year in the fall. The “Battle of the Bays: American Tour 2017” will have German speed metal band Dust Bolt opening along with the awful American metalcore band Power Trip. This probably will not be a great tour for underground metal fans but could be fun for beer metallers.

Acclaimed progressive rock and heavy/death metal band Cóndor are touring the east coast of the United Stated next month with techdeaf Morbid Angel worshipers Garroted. This will be a good chance for seasoned headbangers to check out an accomplished band with enough quality material to make for a great live set and an up-and-coming run of the mill band that can play their instruments. Garroted could potentially improve in the future if they compose their riffs into effective death metal mazes that progress forward instead of simply playing them one after the other.

Marduk, Incantation, and Abysmal Dawn are touring the United States together this August and September. Tour dates and venues are pending. Will antifascists and communists attack Marduk for their apolitical use of Second World War imagery? Will Incantation be targeted too as Craig Pillard was the vocalist on their best work? We will have to wait and see.

Absu are embarking upon an almost non-stop European festival tour this July. Absu are always an experience live with Prosciptor’s psychedelic unpredictability. Continental headbangers in for an interesting show should check Absu out. You never know what will happen. Will Proscriptor rap? Will he hump inanimate objects when possessed by spirits from the Celtic underworlds? Only you can find out!

Destruction are touring the US this year. The not as legendary as Sodom German speed metal band are bringing along z-list death metal bands Warbringer and Jungle Rot. Do people who love Sodom, Destructor, and Kreator love Jungle Rot? How many middle-aged men and party thrashers in Suicidal Tendencies hats also wear cargo shorts? Seeing this tour gives you the chance to find out. Will Schmier’s voice be as haggard as his appearance? Will Destruction’s drums be as fake as modern Kreator’s?

Two of the best and only worthy modern speed metal bands are embarking upon a European tour together this fall. Ripper and Entrench, who made our lists of The Best Underground Metal of 2014 and 2016, are planning a European tour and need to get some gigs to knock headbangers on their backs. From Ripper’s Funbook page:
