With the full album appearing sometime in 2020, Fourth Monarchy released their track “The Rebirth of the Fourth Monarchy” in 2019, making it a good time to remind our audience of this important band. Following more of a Sentenced/Dissection fast melodic death/black metal attack, the new track showcases some odd vocals but tight improved songwriting.

Varathron burst into black metal as an outsider, playing Mercyful Fate inspired black metal melodies at a doom metal pace, but never understood what made them appreciated, which was the intense sense of a descending mood with possibility around each corner that this album evoked.

Ehlder make a type of atmosphere black metal based around stomp beats and droning guitars with angular riffs gilded with cryptic melody.

Good things in life usually arrive in messy form. The bad things are simple and seem harmless; the good ones tend to be ambiguous, and only reveal their value over time, where you can see plusses and minuses to their operation but good results in the end. Such is also true of much of underground metal.

Darkthrone riff overflow project Isengard, which released two albums back in the day, announced that its third compilation of material, Vårjevndøgn, will be released in October on longtime label Peaceville Records, giving us more of the Celtic Frost and Bathory fusion inspired black metal for which Darkthrone is known.

On October 30, Vic Records plans to release the first Sacramentum EP, Finis Malorum from 1994, originally issued on Northern Records in limited quantities. Owing to rising interest in this epic melodic death metal band, more Sacramentum material has been re-issued, starting with Far Away From The Sun back in May.

Diabolos Rising/Raism manifested the work of two black metal musicians, George Zacharopoulos (music) from Necromantia and Mika Luttinen (vocals) from Impaled Nazarene, which allowed them to let out some ideas without having to compromise the integrity of their main bands.

Evil Tentacle Records experienced some printing plant delays with its re-issue of Sorcier Des Glaces Snowland on vinyl but is still taking pre-orders.
A black metal classic originally released as a CD-R, Snowland offers a highly effective and visionary form of epic melodic black metal. That this was originally released in 1998 is a wonder considering the tepid and downright flaccid nature of black metal at the time.

Before Immortal came to life, guitarist Demonaz worked on a hybrid of primitive death metal and Bathory in a band he formed with later Hades drummer Jørn Inge Tunsberg. Nuclear War Now! productions will release the two Amputation demos as a single CD/LP entitled Slaughtered in the Arms of God on August 20, 2020.
