Serpent ov Old – Miskatonic Abysmal Path (2019)

After releasing an impressive debut back in 2012, then proceeding to vanish amidst the shadows, briefly emerging out of the mist and fog with a cryptic 2-track offering in late Summer 2018… Serpent ov Old, perhaps the most interesting Metal project of the past 15 years (if only to the the present author’s particular personal perspective and tastes musical and otherwise), have finally released their long-awaited sophomore full-length.

Phantom – The Epilogue to Sanity

Phantom are a mysterious band with no information on them apart from various claims that range from their music being called Terror or Phantom metal and that they are there to completely innovate the genre and to create acoustic terrorism. While such claims have been spurted by many artists in easy marketing attempts or to stir controversy before an almost identical band makes the same claim and receives their mandatory fifteen seconds. Phantom unlike other bands, seem sincere in their objectives and genuinely try to live up to these claims.

Xibalba – Ah Tza Xibalba Itzaes (2018)

Both late comebacks of metal bands and revivals of metal sub-genres are offering familiar yet much more streamlined, simplified and somewhat more populist version of themselves. In various ways it stands true for albums like Beherit’s Engram or Asphyx’s Death…The Brutal Way and now also Xibalba’s Ah Tza Xibalba Itzaes. This time band members supposedly bought some stuff from the Nordic Resistance Movement. And once again Marduk responded with an obligatory statement which technically isn’t a lie but also evades addressing the underlying question about their views.

Uncovering The mysteries of Molested – Blod-Draum

Norway has never been known for being an exponent of death metal, barring the early contributions of Darkthrone and the parent bands to some of the greatest black metal groups to emerge from the country. The brainchild of Borknagar main songwriter Øystein Garnes Brun, Molested was a brief flash in the pan before the mediocrity of Borknagar would define his career.

Faraón – T.E.S.I.S. (2000)

article written by Belisario

This album is the debut opus and the only recording done by Argentinian project Faraón (Spanish for “pharaoh”), a short-lived one-man band set in motion by the individual known as Temptor Princnegsur, possibly just before putting it on hold to focus on his main act, Gevurahel. One of the most fascinating things about this record is that it has seen almost no circulation since it appeared in self-released format, shortly after the turn of the millennium, failing to gather the slightest bit of attention until the year 2017, when a fellow Argentinian small-sized label called Sons of Hell Prod. decided to release a reissue.
