Amebix always had something that other crust bands lacked, a sense of the mystical or something existing beyond the consumerist, political, atomized, and individualistic modern world. It seemed to be connecting to something both ancient and futuristic.

Trendy albums age poorly, but those written for eternity tend to maintain their stature even as people gain more experience and cynicism over the years. Finis Malorum stands up to time with a new edition that includes the “Sedes Impiorum” demo, two covers, and an early track.

Life assembles itself from opposites; what is a strength in one area is a weakness in another. Confess: An Autobiography serves as a great history of Rob Halford, but misses what his audience would like, which is a history of Judas Priest in which Halford discusses his own progress as well as that of the band.

Revolutionary but traditional metal/punk band Tau Cross — continuing, among others, the legacy of legendary hardcore band Amebix — unleashes its forthcoming album Messengers of Deception on December 4th, but has released a teaser track for the song “Burn With Me,” featuring a video by Jakob Moth which showcases some of the imagery and aesthetics behind the band. This continues the search for a single voice between punk, metal, and hard rock that avoids both commercialism and indecisive polyglot, instead creating a powerful sound of dissent and exploration.

This EP could serve as a demonstration of the futility of postmodernism and pluralism, since riffs from hard rock, speed metal, death metal, and progressive rock happily coexist in these songs, but with each pulling in its own direction, songs have no center and tend to ramble between moments of clarity before drifting away.
No CommentsFollowing up on an earlier announcement, Vic Records released the complete details:
Re-issue of legendary 1994 mini cd plus two covers tracks (Sepultura’s ‘The Cure/ Antichrist’ and Mercyful Fate’s ‘Black Masses’), their 5 track 1993 demo ‘Sedes Impiorum’, and one very early and rare track. All tracks are carefully digitalized, restored and remastered by Achilleas Kalantzis at Suncord Audiolab (Varathron, Benediction,Gomorrah). The booklet contains extensive liner notes by French journalist Olivier ‘Zoltar’Badin (Cathedral, Dark Funeral, Treblinka) and many rare pictures. Finis Malorum was recorded in Unisound Studios, Sweden with Dan Swano (Katatonia, Opeth, Dissection) and the cover tracks were recorded with Kings Diamond’s Andy Laroque at his Los Angered Recordings studio. Supreme Swedish melodic Black/Death Metal! Sacramentum recently reformed and will release their new album on Century Media.
Should be out on October 30, appropriately.

Metal finds itself adrift between major movements, having perfected itself with black metal, especially as the genre re-incorporated death metal influences. Morons took that back into rock with “technical death metal” and “post-metal,” and the underground retaliated by becoming hardcore punk with “war metal.”

Technical percussive death metal band Deeds of Flesh (similar to Suffocation, Kataklysm, or Malevolent Creation) releases its ninth studio album, Nucleus, on December 11 of this year. Overcoming the loss of founder and guitarist Erik Lindmark in 2018, the band has come back with an updated sound and style.

COVID-19 — the bizarre virus from Wuhan, China that is part HIV, part bat flu, and part pure demonic evil — only attacks when we are having a good time, scientists have revealed. This necessitates the closing of all bars, pubs, restaurants, concert venues, and record stores, but not tax offices, tire shops, or proctologists.
