Sacramentum – The Coming of Chaos (Re-Mix 2024)

by Charles Alexander

The remix of The Coming of Chaos addresses production difficulties with a late release by a classic band, but struggles to overcome the hybrid of black metal and speed metal that was in vogue for a couple years but ultimately muddles the amazing composition within this album.

Songs that were already rising above the rest benefit most from the re-mix. Some guitar harmonies in “Abyss of Time” and “Portal of Blood” that were inaudible originally can be heard clearly now, and “Awaken Chaos” and “Burning Lust” benefit from increased atmosphere.

They also cut ten minutes out of the outro, which is probably an improvement, and completely removed the (in)famous “lesbian pleasure” sample in “Burning Lust.” All guitars come through more cleanly and forcefully, renovating an undernoticed album by one of the authors of the black metal canon.

The digital flavor is too strong. In the old version, the texture of distortion is closely attached to the melody lines. But the new version, all Instruments are wrapped in digital dyeing. The digital effect eliminates the drone-space, and to some extent, the drone-space is the soul of metal music (of course, especially black metal).

So, now that it doesn’t sound like like shit, you don’t like it?
      Obsolete tears, I say.

In terms of melody, Sacramentum is a bit suck in this album.

Fortunately, melody is secondary, although European bands often seem to rely too much on melodies.

The charm of metal music mainly in these two aspects:
        1. Riff-maze (sturm und drang)
        2. Drone-space (texture)

e.g. Only Sacramentum’s first album(Far…) balancing both aspects, the sound does indeed sound like fog’s kiss, and the melody is better than others.

e.g. Emperor is good at 1, Burzum is good at 2, obvious.

btw Cries from a Restless Soul is the best song of Sacramentum. The less alone I am, the more alone I feel.

btw If u want some clear timbre new shit, check this out: Nightbringer – Ego Dominus Tuus 2014

          I might add:

          3. Dynamics/contrast
          4. Storytelling

The less alone I am, the more alone I feel.

Classic European Romanticism: the world is too much with us.

Sounds good overall. The demo version of “Awaken Chaos” released with the Far Away from the Sun remaster was played with more conviction than the one here. I don’t know which version you listened to because there is clearly still sexual moaning to be heard in the re-mixed version of “Burning Lust”.

  3. Anal Fissures says:

Do think they take turns banging the tranny while on tour?

    1. Heroic Homosex says:

No, because they are hets. Hets don’t bang trannies because transwomen are men. If you are homo, you don’t bang trannies because they are hiding their masculinity and trying to make gay sex into a heteronormative experience. Trannies can only bang other trannies or inanimate objects.

      1. Sodomiak says:

Gee, whether troll or not, I don’t care, aren’t you the moral knight? Porn knows no distinction, its perversity, for its own sake, because life is boring, and degeneracy soon seeps in. It doesn’t matter, so stop acting like a pseudo-Christian, even though I know you’re probably trolling.

In other words… SODOMY IS THE WAY

      2. Rape Ov Trannies says:

Trannies are the inanimate object these guys are going to share for heroic homo rape. They will thrust their members into that Melissa Moore faggot’s good for nothing ass until they ejaculate inside with a violence.

    2. Mook says:

They aren’t touring with the tranny anymore. They are touring with the guitarist’s girlfriend, a Nordic woman.

    3. Benny says:

      Which one’s the tranny?

      1. It’s a different band who has the transgender. Philipa Anselmo is a hell of a woman.

  4. Schmuk says:

Unnecessary cash-grab/marketting shtick. There was nothing wrong with the original, aside from being basically a more intricate version of hardrock (why the fuck did they deviate from their benchmark album is anyone’s guess).

  5. Antaeus forever says:

Sampling porn sounds is nothing new in metal, Thou art Lord, Archgoat, Diabolicum and plenty of others did that as well, just to show they had ‘dig bicks’, which in reality they didn’t, but wanted to becum trannyz instead.

  6. Linda says:

Brett, are you a fan of the Terrifier horror films? If so, you should interview Damien Leone. Dude is a practical effects expert, and he’s makes the most sadistic horror I’ve seen in a long time. Makes me feel distraught after watching his films, so he’s doing horror films correctly. Pretty decent budgeted films considering he’s producing such schlock.

  7. burning thrust says:

Notice it’s someone else doing the write up on this, that’s how sick of speed metal Brett is.

    1. Desmond Abebe says:

It’s like with the Gnome Garden monologue, only opposite. That was fusing; now we’re splitting again.

  8. Iak Sakkath says:

Essential reading about why this re-mix had to be done!
