Resurgency – No Worlds… Nor Gods Beyond (2017)

Resurgency play blasting death metal in the tradition of Morbid Angel and Malevolent Creation. No Worlds… Nor Gods Beyond excels in a cogent, muscular delivery and a breakneck speed that give the impression of darkness sweeping over and engulfing the world.

Versatility within this highly limited guitar style — consisting almost entirely of tremolo-picked sixteenth notes — attests to strength of this palette of techniques and the creativity of the band. Resurgency frequently employ a triplet feel at high tempos, creating thereby a powerful sense of urgency.

Sparse, well-timed, noisy guitar solos that allude to the work of Trey Azagthoth accentuate the chaotic nature of the malevolent force embodied by the music. Improvements could be made via more consistently memorable riffs, less blocky transitions, and more nuanced, varied, and ambitious songwriting. Despite these flaws, No Worlds… Nor Gods Beyond stands up well to repeated listens.
