Offering many unique riffs and twists in songs, this album shows Ravenous Death following its heroes Vomitory in making primitive death metal that incorporates melody and even keyboards for atmosphere in the midst of speed-metal-influenced chugging riffs that build in a kind of basic groove.
Visions from the Netherworld makes a solid album, but might be described as stronger in its parts than the whole. The reliance on the guitar/drum groove takes over songs, and cramming riffs in them makes them a bit too busy, when focus on some of these excellent ideas and building songs around them might serve better.
Nonetheless, like Vomitory or even Malevolent Creation, this band offers a festival of powerful riffs presented with high energy and an evocative hypnotic rhythm. It rebels against the attempt to make metal fancier and more technical, and instead develops the rich language of the past on its own terms into a new voice.
