It’s not so much that true metal is a genre, but a label that bands are applying to their music to say that they are not part of the newer hybrid genre, and that they want to return to the spirit that produced the great music of the 1970s, 1980s and early 1990s. The spirit is what allows bands to create music that carries the power of older metal, say fans, and many fans suggest that the newer music has lost that spirit because it’s going in another direction. Whatever the case, the true metal movement is suggesting that metal isn’t just a bunch of techniques and tropes, but a gestalt that ties them all together and communicates some kind of union with power and transcendence of the human condition, while more recent metal hybrids have been all about celebrating that human condition. – The Return of True Metal
It’s good to see this finally happening. People got fooled by the hype for a decade or so, as often happens.

Well, if there is someone that can cure hipsters like Mastodon guy and other iphone indie metal posers is Bill Whittle and, he can actually do it in 3 and a half days! Thank God Bill Whittle is here.

You can thank me later.
I hated ANUS.com before it was cool to do so. I WIN.
Only hipsters care about hipsters. The rest of us are trying to ignore their existence.

“True Metal”
Yeah you can keep your unheard of band with four redneck fucks in it making unlistenable garbage in their base.ment that no one would would ever want to listen to but it’s ok because it’s “true as fuck metal”.
When Brett Stevens blogposts start quoting other Brett Stevens blogposts, that’s when you know anus has gone full autist.
Let’s kill off the old hessians and carry on and see where metal will take us. Let metal evolve like it should.
>your unheard of band
Appeal to popularity. With this mentality Justin Bieber is one of the best musicians ever.
>base.ment
Ostracizing others using “nerd” cliches, just because their kind of art is different than the kind you like.
>redneck fucks
Racism and classism.
How do I post quotes?
How do I post in bold?
What words are on the blocklist?
How do I get in touch with the cute boys who post here?
>Appeal to popularity.
Yeah dude. Everyone knows Cianide and Bahimiron are ignored only because they are misunderstood geniuses.
>Ostracizing others using “nerd” cliches, just because their kind of art is different than the kind you like.
>implying these cliches aren’t absolutely true, just browse the forum
>Racism and classism.
Damn fucking right. That’s elitism in action, fucko.
My butt hole is not just an exit.
This reminds me of the early ideals of black metal back in 1991-93.
>People got fooled by the hype for a decade or so, as often happens.
You mean clueless teenagers wanted to believe that their input in metal culture was equal if not superior than the input of the originators of the genre. And now apparently the only good they can do is imitating the great works that defined the genre. I’m not sure if this is a good thing, I think it’s kinda sad that the later generations have had absolutely nothing of value to contribute. I don’t believe it’s because albums like Hvis Lyset Tar Oss or Transilvanian Hunger raised the bar too high. If that was true then how come Bathory didn’t raise the bar too high for the second wave of BM? The generations that followed were and are inferior. Kill a teenager today for great justice!
Who gives a shit, that whole scene and everything you’re talking about is completely fucking irrelevant and garbage, you might as well be talking about how new industrial is worse than old industrial, it’s all complete crap. Try real metal like Imaginations From the Other Side and Kill ‘Em All, queer.
I remember a thread on the old anus BBS where it was argued that black metal was feminine: nocturnal, sensual, mysterious, the “yang” to death metal’s “yin”. Guess you pussies haven’t caught up yet.
