We had a brief teaser for North almost a year ago. In the mean time, Sorcier des Glaces has released one of its upcoming tracks, as well as a longer trailer for the album, and they’ve also set a release date – February 29th. I’d take this release date with a grain of salt, since Sorcier des Glaces has been known to delay them a great deal for whatever reason. Case in point – this album’s predecessor (Ritual of the End) was originally planned for 2012 but didn’t release until 2014. Still, whether or not it gets released on time, it should be a worthy acquisition; the band’s style remains intact, and that means strength of melodic development and extended songwriting for everyone.

Easily the best BM band around today.
Stephane, from the Borknagar thread, ought to set this alongside the new Borknagar product and ask, which one best embodies Metal, and which one best embodies the idea of “Winter Thrice”? These questions need not be mutually exclusive, mind you.
To my ears, Sorcier des Glaces represents the voice of the individual feral survival instinct, willing his survival long enough to see a world where others of similar constitution are the only ones left, after the weak ones have frozen to death…
Borknagar, on the other hand, has apparantly debased themselves to pop-metal suitable for tourists on one of those Viking River Cruises one sees advertised on PBS: “Aren’t those snowy fjords just beautiful this time of year?” “Oh, I just LOVE Norway! I think I’m gonna buy a chalet here…!”
