Controversial war/black metal hybrid Sammath homebrewed a video for the first track from Across the Rhine is only death, “Ferocious Mortar Fire,” demonstrating the visual aesthetics of a form of ruthlessly inhuman music that sees the evil in humanity as a product of our stupidity, not religious symbolism.

Awesome track! I can hear the nods to Strjid on this one pretty clearly. Is Sammath considered controversial now? I was unaware of that development.
lol they’re not controversial. they’ve just put out 2 really weak new songs. but some people are fanboying over them anyway. bring on the butthurt but it’s hardly controversy
The riff ~3:50 is pretty strong. Otherwise, I agree with the above assessment.
I wasn’t expecting repeats of “Shot in the Mass” though.
I disagree about the second track. The first one was a little underwhelming but this second track is awesome and more on par with what I expected based on the description of the album provided by Brett Stevens. Which album do you consider Sammath’s best? I am legitimately curious to hear why you think this second tracks is underwhelming/weak. Thanks.
it’s weak because it’s dynamically flat, fails to emote, and lacks good riffs. like they’re doing the post-south of heaven slayer thing, just taking old riffs and rearranging the notes so they sound a little different. basically sounds like an angelcorpse clone with better drumming
Interesting take. I will continue to assess the song with your criticism’s in my back pocket as reference.
Exactly. There’s this mad “circularity” within some of the riffs which positively reminds me of Deicide or Sinister, but overall it is flat, without some underlying, sufficiently distinct idea. Notice how it is also reflected by the lyrics. So it actually may be intentional, as it seems that whenever some meaning is about to emerge, it is forcefully yet deliberately cut in order to obliterate any trace of grandiosity, but if so, then it is not a good direction. It became too literal even if it is amazing accomplishment, as Sammath itself became a war.
eh I think you’re even giving them too much credit there. “they make it sound like shit on purpose” doesn’t work as an argument unless you’re talking a out PHANTOM B]
“basically sounds like an angelcorpse clone with better drumming” — Better drumming? The new drummer has a really hard time holding a steady tempo on a blast.
amount of sammath’s dick sucking on this portal is amazing.
Say what you will, gOdless arrogance was gOdly.
They’re one of the few dicks left to suck (no homo)
