Early progressive death metal experimenters Sadist, who began when besides At the Gates, Pestilence, and Atheist there were few options, plan to introduce their ninth full-length album to the world with Firescorched in 2021.
The band released the following statement:
Italian progressive death metallers SADIST are currently working on their upcoming ninth studio album, titled Firescorched, which is expected to be released next year.
The band will record the new full-length with French virtuoso extreme metal drummer Romain Goulon (ex-NECROPHAGIST, ex-BENIGHTED, ex-DISAVOWED) and Dutch fretless bass master Jeroen Paul Thesseling (OBSCURA, QUADVIUM, ex-PESTILENCE).
“During these tough times being mainly in lockdown and spending most of the time in our studios we aim to create a massive sounding, typical earlier progressive SADIST style production. In this early stage the rough material already turns out promising.
At the moment Romain is recording drums and soon Jeroen will start tracking bass. We hope to finish recordings in the first half of 2021 and to release the album later that same year via a new label.”, says Tommy Talamanca
Formed in 1991 and renowned for their progressive death oriented productions Above the Light (1993), Tribe (1995) and Crust (1997), SADIST split up after releasing Lego (2000) but reunited again in 2005.
Thereafter the group released a self-titled album Sadist (2007), followed by Season in Silence (2010), Hyaena (2015) and Spellbound (2018). Their compositions involve heavy usage of guitar and keyboard solos, with jazz and Middle Eastern influences.
Personnel

Revisited Piece of Time and Unquestionable Presence over the weekend and I must say they hold up remarkably well. Although I enjoy The Red in the Sky Is Ours more than the aforementioned albums, it is the only album I like from At the Gates, which is why I place Atheist at the top of the early progressive death metal experimenters pyramid.
No Cynic?
Meh. I remember feeling lukewarm when I listened to Focus years ago. There was a certain je ne sais quoi missing for me and I was never interested in a follow-up listen.
The 1991 Demo is better.
Never heard it; I will try to give it a listen when I have the opportunity.

Thanks senpai. A tip of the sombrero to T Malm is in order for his suggestion. Both demos have a vigor absent from Focus that elucidate the feral energy of ascending youth. Not bad at all.
De nada, hombre.
