It is with sadness that we mourn the passing of Death metal legend Richard Brunelle who passed away on Monday. His sister in law delivered the following message.
“This is Richie’s sister-in-law. This devastating post is at the request of my husband and his mother. It is with deep regret and sorrow that we inform Richie’s friends and fans that he passed away. Please feel free to visit the link to share memories and condolences. Rest in peace, Richie. You were so loved and will be forever missed.”
Though much debate has been sparked about the extent of his role in Morbid Angel but considering how the band declined after he left, it is safe to assume he had an essential role and more importantly had a much more classic style that was able to reign in and concentrate some of Azagthoth’s crazier ideas. Conjecture aside it is well known that he created by himself this beautiful piece of music found on Blessed are the Sick

Rest In Peace Richard, your legacy will never be forgotten!!!

Desolate Ways is very good. It always reminds me of my Dad’s guitar playing, but a little less slick since now my father has been playing acoustic guitars for almost 7 decades. RIP dude
It’s very unfortunate to hear, I listen to Altars several times on any given week before or after work. I recall sometime last year Richard getting quite a bit of praise here for his influence over those early albums, but I didn’t quite understand it at the time. I was not aware that he wrote Desolate Ways, and I may have to reconsider some previous comments I made here. The creative process is fascinating, it was so long ago, but it would be interesting to see where Trey and Richard’s input began and ended. Rest assured Richard, you will not be forgotten.
Eyy toss Speckmann Project on that commute for a long sought revisit or for something kinda new yet familiar.

What band is on Trey’s shirt?
Massacre, fellow Tampa statesmen.
Thanks, but is it really Massacre? Also here: https://www.deathmetal.org/wp-content/uploads/morbid-angel-dave-vincent-point-break.jpg
“Rest in Piece” … Is that on purpose?
I write and speak very rarely in English nowadays.
