While the sundered remnants of Immortal are trying to go their own ways (Abbath released a solo album, the rest of Immortal promises one later in 2016), Nuclear Blast Records is taking advantage of their rights to the Immortal back catalog by reissuing Pure Holocaust and At The Heart of Winter on vinyl. We’ve written about the strengths of Immortal’s early work in the past, and even the more streamlined and accessible At the Heart of Winter has its charms, so it should go without saying that the content of these reissues is valuable. Currently, the vinyl records are only available through Nuclear Blast’s German-language storefront, and not officially available until March 18th. German speakers might want to get in on this opportunity early.

At The Heart Of Winter is a pretty accessible album but without being shit. It’s what i usually recommend to people who show an interest in metal or want to scratch beneath the surface of the metal they’re familiar with.
All of the albums are still in print on CD from Osmose with no remastering. Why buy an LP printed from a CD?
If you have to ask why, you’re not really in the target audience.
Were they not re-issued (and also remastered), along with Enslaved’s early releases, for American distribution via The End Records?
Great band! Lousy cover.
yep you speak true! basically it is an embarrassment in the world of LP covers. good thing about the songs :)
(Just think of the cool artistic & mythical imagery that their songs convey — even a decent student of drawing could’ve done something way more engaging and interesting.)
KISS, anyone?
I love the Immortal covers. On Pure Holocaust, they went to to the salon beforehand.
I have all the Immortal albums that are relevant, up to blizzard beasts, released by osmose. Diabolical fullmoon mysticism being their finest effort. Shit, I need to listen to pure holocaust and battles in the north again, I haven’t listened to those albums in fucking years.
_Pure Holocaust_ is simply too awesome for most people to handle. It will show you the dark realms of winterdemons. Also, _Blizzard Beasts_ is highly underrated.
