Didn’t hear any Obituary since Cause Of Death more then 20 years ago. This is really bad. It seems composed of two parts, both based on boringly simple riffs, one with a low register »Loathe«, the other on a strange, hi to mid low vocal curve which reminds me of hip hop for some reason (and not of anything positive related to that), words unintelligible. There are repeated ‘stops’ of the guitar on the left side while the right hand side guitar plays something the other starts to repeat after a while. Some aimless soloing which is neither really dissonant nor really consonant and even the drummer makes a sleepy appearance somewhere in the middle. Devoid of any feeling, especially dark or aggressive feeling.

    Orbituary covering Nothing Left?

Slowly we rot and cause of death is all you need from obituary. End complete was a step down, but still a good album. I ignore the rest of their output. It’s still fun watching them play their old classics live.

    I like it…I like it a lot!
usually only want to hear the first 2 albums but sometimes get in the mood to want to hear the entire discography,
Obituary is like AC/DC where they found their niche and deliver what the majority of their fans want.

Hmm … what do you think of this?

New band (debut) from the UK, strongly influenced by Asphyx, most easily discernible in the vocals. The opening riff is similar to one of the two riffs in the Orbituary track. The 2nd riff has probably been lifted from Genesis Refracted (The King Is Blind). There’s an interesting, short, downward-spiralling solo. Drumming is mostly tom-centered, proto-technical (other tracks also use bass runs), a bit too loose at times (the drummer also plays in Horrified and has become quite a bit more focussed since the last Horrified album).

NB: I’m in the process of making up my mind on this, currently ‘reserved, tendency positive’.

As I had the opportunity of a pretty direct comparison: MP3 sound quality is indeed pathetic, even on low-end playback devices.

that Live Burial youtube track is pretty good !
wish the tom drums were miked better and tuned heavier, but thankfully they are not as annoyingly “pingy and overpowering” like other bands (Adversarial’s debut LP, or Sacramentary Abolishment for example).
