On its first demo and full-length, Behemoth was a Polish black metal band with affinities toward old Immortal, a footnote to the first wave of black metal. Later, the band experimented with modern black metal and then segued into metalcore for which they got rich and famous. However, the early material is among the most soulful and nuanced that metal has produced.
