Dissection
Promo 1993
[Independent]
Two tracks, one being a early version of "Where Dead Angels Lie," and the
latter a fitting Tormentor cover. The first song is better than the "Storm
of the Light's Bane" version; there is less polish on the production, and so
it sounds much more like the Nordic underground music that was prevalent in
the early half of the 90's. The scream after the acoustic break is still
great. Production is dry and their is little depth to the instruments.
Everything is precise, as is certainly characteristic of the band.
The Tormentor cover seems to be especially suiting for Dissection; simple
and harmonic melody; a subtle hint of heavy metal influence; and the
beginnings of the violence we would see later to come in the band. I have
only heard the original version once, so I can't make any educated
comparisons; it reminds me so much of Dissection that I had previously just
assumed they had written the song in the first place.
By no means essential to get, especially because both songs are on the
Nordic Metal tribute anyways.
