De Infernali
Symphonia De Infernali
[Nuclear Blast]
I never thought someone would go quite this far... daring to blend black
metal with something of the caliber of "techno," but alas, I have been
surprised again. Interestingly enough, De Infernali seems to even be a
joint project of Jon (Dissection) and Damien (Midvinter), two individuals
who I had previously raised to quite a noteworthy status within a scene of
icons. I really don't take this very seriously, and how can I? Satanic
techno? This seems to me to be comparing (dare I say mixing) Black to
White, Darkness to Light, Death to Existance. A unique, but faltering idea
nonetheless.
Material-wise, as I said, De Infernali is a mixture of black metal
ideaology (Satanism), Industrial execution (vocal effects), and techno (bass
and drum beats). And although this provides for an interesting and
certainly a unique listen, I simply can't bring myself to say that I approve
of this dog-shit in the BM scene. The only part of the album which I can
however approve of, is the instrumental synth parts which are spaced between
each of the main songs. These, through the use of effective electronics,
bring to mind those elements of Dissection that were special: solitude,
despondency, melancholy, and despair, all manifested through a series of
simple and repetative harmonies, swirling together and mingling as one,
slowly building upon one another, and then coming to a climax, where all the
energy that has been brewing thus far is released in a explosion of
thoughts.
I will conclude this by stating again that De Infernali is a techno band,
and that they should most defintely NOT be associated in any manner, with
the black metal scene. Although unique in it's own right, it still
represents two things which would probably be better seperate, and certianly
not be brought together in this context.
