Nargaroth
Orke
[Independent]

Interesting demo from Nargaroth. Focusing on primal energy and execution, Nargaroth here has produced an extremely stripped and cleansed form of trance black metal that relies on the sheer element of repetition and cyclical movement to draw one closer to pure thought. There are no vocals on this demo, and nor should there be. I believe the essence of the music is left to the interpretation of the listener to decipher and contemplate, where in a thousand different hands, it may possess a thousand different meanings.

To evoke a picture here, one must simply imagine the songs from Filosfem, and remove the vocal structures from the music. Orke is really no different from Filosfem, as far as repetition, simplistic song foundations, and ultimately evocative emotional capabilities. In fact, I would say that the only real distinction lies in the fact that the latter has vocals, whereas Orke does not.

There are some interesting elements to this demo, yet summing over, I can't find any logical reason to call it "cult." I would love to see more bands returning to this style, this style of utter deprevation and solitude, yet that does not make it particularly outstanding. The basic noteworthy aspects of the demo are basically the most noteworthy aspects of Filosfem, so if you like one, chances are you will like the other.
