Darkthrone
Plaguewielder
[Moonfog]
there is no need to introduce darkthrone nowadays one
of the last remains the once elite Norwegic scene,
before black metal became "cool". after long years of
activity and achiving the status of almost living
legends darkthrone proves once again that they have'nt
lost any of the talent nor the style they had in the
begining of they're way. this album contain's 6 tracks
and last's over 40 minutes, so the songs here are
about 6 minutes each, eventhough not boring at all.
the mid paced parts are dominating here and have a
great feel that makes you bang you'r head on something
and the blast beats just sweeps you away to hell. the
song stucture in this album is quite repeatative , it
start's with 3 or 4 riffs at some point there is a
break of the main rythem, mostly slow-downs and after
that it all blasts again. i herd alot of people saying
that this album reminds them of "a blaze in the
northern sky" i dont agree with that, i think that it
is mainly because they both have the same mood, alot
of energies and a very grim feeling. but here we have
a somewhat more mature darkthrone, the best way to
prove this are the lyrics which became somewhat
phylosohic (but i must admit that better than most
past releases) and the vocals (less screams or gore).
darkthrone got famous for theyre bad quality
production sound in theyre albums, in this case the
sound is quite rough ,but defenitly cleaner than
before the guitar sounds very powerfull and and the
drum sounds very good, harsh and brutal in my opinion
better than in "ravishing grimness". conclusion : this
is a great album that proves that black metal is still
alive and kicking, i truelly advise you to get this
one.
