Spear Of Longinus
The Yoga Of National Socialism
[Vinland Winds]
Starting from the occult spark of it's birth under the southern cross, Spear of Longinus has always challenged established ideas and thought patterns, and pushed the envelope both musically and societally. They have always been rogue wanderers of the metal deserts, mixing dirty thrash elements with their own particular style of hybrid black metal, lyrically and spiritually they combine esoteric occult doctrines with National Socialist philosophy to create masterworks that never fit the stereotyped image of NSBM.
And so, with TYONS, Spear of Longinus has emerged from its long trance with a stripped down, almost threadbare sound much different from their earlier works. The band has expressed its displeasure with the production values, but in my humble opinion it accentuates the sparse but developed themes in a most effective way. The music itself is performed flawlessly, it's ever so precise machinations giving the impression of the evoluting of the musician to a higher plane, of mystical forces used so precisely to control each minute flutter of guitar strings, the timbre and texture of the cymbals.
Just scratching the surface, this release might seem overly simplistic in its spartan arrangements. But listen closer. You can feel the rising of the occult aura, the raising of the Aryan spirit towards Ubermenschen levels never achieved before, these forces flowing and weaving their intricate patterns through the words and music, strengthening and fleshing out the superstructure of the instrumentation, pulling it all together to become a cohesive entity like no other that has ever existed.
