Pest

[Ketzer]
There are at least two Pests. This is the one from Germany. They play
Black Metal.
This is a very chaotic album, composed of short, quick riffs and
atypical drum fills that combine to form strange, shifting musical
patterns. The vocals seem to exist somewhere above this base, as
competent Black Metal screams, and somewhere beneath the base, sparing
keys are used. There are some occasional acoustic guitar/piano
interludes, all of which are quite excellently played. These are one of
the best things about the album - a lot of bands try this, but seldom
does it work as well as it has here. The drumming is also noteworthy,
especially the use of cymbals. They contribute quite a lot to the
unsettling atmosphere of the album.
I'm not sure exactly how to categorize this band. They remind me of
both Master's Hammer and fellow labelmates Grabnebelfursten, yet they're
so completely different from both that it's hard to say they're in the
same vein at all. The label compares them to In The Woods. I'd say
that this band is a bit too aggressive for the comparison, especially to
In The Woods' later, not-very-metal works. In the end, all I can do is
give my wholehearted recommendation. This is an album that will please
those looking for out-of-the-ordinary Black Metal.
Standout tracks: "Im Angesicht der schwarzen Sonne", "Am Ende des
Weges", "Breeding"
