Grand Belial's Key
Judeobeast Assassination
[Drakkar]
I'd love to force every anti-black metal faggot who thinks black metal is crap like Dummy Burger or is just a ripoff of Transilvanian Hunger to listen to Grand Belial's Key. There isn't a single keyboard pad in any of their songs (except intros), no superfast strum-chording, no garden-sprinkler drumming, and in fact there is a wealth of fast, technical thrash/speed metal style riffing and some great influence from early death metal. About as far from the black metal stereotype as you can get. BUT THEY'RE STILL BLACK FUCKING METAL!! It's all in the approach...
Judeobeast ASSaSSination is their second full-length album (reissues of older, out of print albums notwithstanding) and continues and even develops the unique approach to black metal they've carried on since their inception. For those who've heard them before, I think there's, overall, a slightly slower approach and more gruff vocals (not quite death metal, but close), and much more focus on those twisted kind of melodies that Gelal seems to have an endless wellspring of. For those who've never heard GBK before, where can I even begin to describe the style? Some say NWOBHM-ish riff-oriented thrashy heavy metal--and that hints at how different they sound from standard black metal, but still doesn't quite hit the mark. In a bizarre way, some of it sounds derived from '70s Priest. Still, there's some awareness of modern black metal in some of the chord voicings and 'moods' they set musically. It's unique and high-quality, that's for sure, and unless you're an aestheticist faggot you'll want to check it out
for those two reasons alone.
And I can't finish a GBK review without mentioning the fucking vile, blasphemous lyrics--hopefully song titles like "Pimps of Gennesaret", "Satanicunt" and "The Shitagogue" give you an idea of what you're in for. HAIL SATAN!
