Moonblood / Katharsis
Supreme Black Forces Of Steel / Watchtowers Of Darkness
[Sombre]

For the fourth (and most likely the last) time MOONBLOOD shares a precious little space on the 7" release with another black metal band. As we all know, this legendary horde doesn't exist anymore, although its members were prolific enough to continue feeding our craving hearts with new releases two years from its demise. A full-length split with NARGAROTH is expected, which is a good thing, since this 7" pretty much fails as a farewell release from MOONBLOOD.

"Supreme Black Forces of Steel" is a fairly typical song for later MOONBLOOD, sounding like it was taken straight from the recording sessions of "Taste Our German Steel!" LP or the "Fuck Peace! We're at War!" split with EVIL. Still, it happens to be one of the least inspired and more boring songs by this horde, with generic and fairly uninteresting riffs and total lack of evil, haunting atmosphere MOONBLOOD has always successfully delivered ever since their first demo rehearsals.

KATHARSIS, a young and promising German horde, hasn't impressed me much in the past, I've found their praised "666" LP fairly generic and overrated. Now, however, this band managed to take over the split. "Watchtowers of Darkness" seethes with evil, hateful energy, a whirlwind of dark riffs over the relentless work of a demons-possessed drummer no longer sounds like an "Under a Funeral Moon"-ripoff this band used to be in the past, and wailings of the singer sound like Varg Vikernes being nailed to the cross... Great stuff.
