Embassy prods was a French label which released only cult albums. They recorded the very first edition of GORGOROTH's
"Pentagram", back in 1994 (no, it was not released first by Malicious Recs, as many people say it...), later on they were the
unique distributor for GRAVELAND's "1000 swords", then they released MACTATUS first MCD, "Blot" and finally they issued
this VLAD TEPES/BELKETRE split CD and re-issued a bit later VLAD TEPES' 1st demo on CD, "War funeral march", before they ended
up all their activities in underground BM aroud 1997/98.This split CD is also a cult, but unlike many other albums it DESERVES this
status.
VLAD TEPES & BELKETRE are both part of the "French Inner Circle" called The Black Legions, together with bands such as MUTIILATION, TORGEIST... They worship Satan exclusively, and hate the "new BM scene" because they can't accept that BM is polluted by neo-nazis and so-called "vikings", "pagan warriors" and "vampires". At least, they are clear and this certainly didn't create new friends for them (and I guess, unfortunately, that's why they have disappeared from the scene now...), but they didn't care of it as they released with this split album a pur MASTERPIECE of Black Metal !
VLAD TEPES plays "Celtic & Barbarian Black Metal", understand Black Metal with a Heavy Metal touch, and this mix is a pure killer ! They recorded their tracks on a basic 8-tx, but the sound is great and the atmosphere in the music is UNIQUE. I think the best track is the 4th one, "Drink the poetry of the Celtic Disciple", it's a 12' intense & melancholic track, which could enable VLAD TEPES vie with the mighty DARKTHRONE or BURZUM ! *
BELKETRE plays a kind of raw, "extremist" black metal, dedicated to Satan exclusively. The singer's completely possessed and his voice will haunt you for eternity ! Less inspired musically than VLAD TEPES, they are more into an extremely dark atmosphere, with a black metal that few ears in this world can listen to... They say in the booklet they recorded on a 4-tx, and we can believe them as their sound is raw (I would say "excellent" but I know many people will not agree as this sound is usually considered as shit even if it's in fact the true sound of Black Metal...).Discordant riffs & grim atmosphere, this is BELKETRE's world.
This album was limited to 1000 copies, and is completely sold-out now, I even saw some bastards slling it for $ 150 on ebay... So if you want it, try to get it through a trade because now it's really hard as fuck to get this CD in your hands... And this is too bad, because many people should read the lines written by the Black Legions in the booklet... This is TRUE evil !
