Embrace Rapture In Disgust
[Dissident]
This is another one of those death metal bands that seems to believe all it takes to get above mediocrity is to blast away as fast and as loud as possible for 45 straight minutes. It's unbelievably predictable, the vocals are a constant barrage of boring screams and growls, and both the dual guitar work and drumming are so unmemorable that I'm having difficulty even commenting on them without playing the album again (which I'm not going to do, because I'm not really into self-torture). Psychrist do find enough time away from their monotonous formula however to throw in an entire heap of gay melodic keyboards, so while they're not ripping off Immolation at least we know they are striving for something more homosexual than that someday.
The Australian band has gigged with Pungent Stench (and supported Morbid Angel) in the past, so they are probably quite a bit better live, but this album is as stale as it gets and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. One of the members also went on to play in Armoured Angel and that sound can definitely be seen in this as well. Ultimately though Embrace Rapture in Disgust is absolutely terrible, and I don't see why all this fuzz revolves around it at all.
