Savatage
The Dungeons Are Calling
[Metal Blade]
Introductions are useless for Savatage, because every
Metalhead in the world generally will have at least
some knowledge of the band. During the early to late
80’s Savatage released 4 classics, and “The Dungeons
Are Calling” is one of them.
John Olivia has a terrifying quality to his voice,
while not making him the best vocalist, does help me
enjoy his vocals. Savatage are very chunk oriented,
with great guitar work highlighting the style of the
album. The title track may be the best track on this
album, but none are waste tracks. Lyrically Savatage
tackles the stereotype dark theme of the time, with
lyrics about witchcraft and evil.
Falling into the category of classic metal albums,
this one will not disappoint. Savatage really made a
mark in the Metal world, and it would be reasonably
accurate to call them the best band from 83-87, of
course the listener must decide, but trust me you will
like it.
