As Divine Grace
Romantic Beatitude Of Faded Dawn
[Folter]
As Divine Grace is one of those bands who chose to walk the path of wussy
gothic variety and manage to do no less than turn doom metal into a wimpy
proposition. The title alone totally smacks of gothic cheese, and so does
the music. This was ADG's debut five song mini-CD. And to think, they used
to be a death metal band once. But that was during the pre-historic times
when they were called Morpheus. Traces of death metal are still present
here, namely the deathy vocals (ADG did not have a female singer at that
point in time), which, I suppose, prevent this CD from being 100% gay.
Other than that, the music is softened gothic doom (you know, lots of
'gothic' and not a lot of 'doom') apparently aimed at imitating early
Paradise Lost and replete with plenty of silly melodies, crappy keyboards,
and an oh-so-romantic and not-too-depressing atmosphere that will appeal to
people too apprehensive to step into the real pool of depression all the way.
Final verdict: if you are looking for a soft variation of doom that will keep
you on the safe side, so to speak, then you can check it out. Otherwise,
STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM THIS CRAP!
