Darkthrone
Under A Funeral Moon
[Peaceville]
The second (Unholy) Black Metal album from the True Norwegian Black Metallers!
The sound is more crispy and crunchy than on their first album. Also
airier, more "dynamic". This one definitely works better (and even if
Darkthrone-sound is manufactured with precision and exact focus, by no
means does this one have a more "manufactured" feel to it than the last
one!). The compositions are much less complicated.
The vocals have perhaps less echo on this one; there is more growl to them
which i certainly prefer over the earlier ones. Fenriz' lyrics on "a Blaze
in the Northern Sky" were chaotic and intuitive. Now they are more
straightforward and coherent which does not mean they are any less poetic.
Time when the lyrics were written varies between 1990 and 1992. Despite the
fact that they were not written at the same time for this album
specifically, they do constitute a whole.
Cover art-work is bleak as usual with Darkthrone.
