Testament
The Legacy
[Atlantic]
I was searching though my CD collection today, when
all of the sudden a light shined onto “The Legacy”, I
started to feel all warm inside……..well you get the
point. One reason I like the “The Legacy” so much, is
the found memory of putting it into my player and
coming to the wonderful realization that their were
more Thrash/Speed Metal bands that were good besides
old Metallica. “The Legacy” helped me open the
floodgates to more extreme Thrash bands.
Testament kicks this one off with the classic “Over
The Wall”. Chuck Billy has a vocal style similar to
James Hetfield (Side note, you deserve to have your
genitals severed with a chainsaw Hetfield). Twin
guitars put this album in the category of thicker
sounding Thrash/Speed Albums (The other category being
the more raw sounding bands like pre RIB Slayer and
older Sodom). Frantic drumming is present on this
album, which of course is a good trait of Thrash
Metal, but all in all, this album is a mix of Thrash
and Speed Metal. No one track is a standout other then
“Over The Wall”, but this is only because every track
is great.
So if you, the reader, do not already own this album,
now is a good time to go out and purchase it, but if
you one of those pansies that can’t stand anything
fast other then Metallica, go shoot yourself in the
head with a rocket launcher.
