Hypocrisy
Osculum Obscenum
[Nuclear Blast]
Back when Osculum Obscenum came out in 93', Hypocrisy was playing a whole
different line of Music than the garbage they are putting out now. This was
before they slowed down and started to incorporate more keyboards and "boo
hoo" parts. They also had the mighty Masse Broberg in the line up still,
giving some of the best vocal contributions in the death metal scene. Song
one, "Pleasure of Molestation," starts out with an interesting keyboard
interlude (reminisecnt of something you would hear in a soundtrack such as
the Abyss) and then quickly jumps into some VIOLENT guitar riffing.
"Exclamation Of a Necrofag" is primarily along the same lines, based upon
some fast guitar, and followed by several breaks and tempo changes. I would
like to mention here that the guitar work on this album is some of the best,
and the production even better. Very powerful and "in your face." "Osculum
Obscenum," one of the better cuts on the album slows down a little at first,
and then follows in suit of the last two tracks, speeding up near the end.
"Inferior Devoties" is clearly the best track on the album, devloping slowly
into some more evocative and harmonious guitar work. To top it off, they
even have covered the timeless classic "Black Metal" from the forefathers of
it all.
