The members of Moonspell putting together a "black
metal" project.. sounds like its gonna be gay
Many of people have told me that they thought this was
very similar to older Moonspell, but since
I never heard any old Moonspell, I cannot comment on
that.. but what we do have here is a strange
mix.. to me this sounds like Bathory crossed with
Moonspell with a crystal clear production.. and
strangely enough, it works! The vocals here are
totally killer (much better than Moonspell's), they
produce some killer riffs, and just make a great disc
overall.. here are the scores
Vox - These are some of the best damn vocals I've heard! It seriously is a shame that he doesn't play this style more instead of Moonspell.. they are a mix of a black shriek and a strange shout, and it just sounds fucking awesome.. you have to hear them to believe them.. Near Perfect 9/10
Guitars - The guitars here are really good.. these guys can play their instruments very well.. they lack any "evilness" or atmosphere, just because its way too over-produced (this cd would be perfection with a 4-track).. they throw together some very good and original riffs.. as mentioned before, they somehow mix a bathory type of style with moonspell-ish stuff and make it sound really good.. Very good 7/10
Bass - I barely heard the bass on the album.. this pisses me off, you are gonna have a picture perfect production, and purposely drown out the bass?! What the fuck is the point of even having a bassist then... Pathetic 2/10
Keys - The keys here aren't used at all in the Moonspell fashion.. its very akin to later Bathory works, and fits the style of music quite well.. Good 6/10
Drums - The drumming here is very good.. he holds down the rhythm very nicely, and knows when to put in the fills.. nothing stands out to me about the drumming, but it is fitting and works well Good 5/10
Overall - This is the first professionally done black metal disc ever put out that I can truely enjoy (I do like Arcturus, but that isn't black metal.. this cd I think passes for it).. with a raw production this could be a masterpiece.. not even darkthrone-esque, just raw enough to add some energy/atmosphere to the music.. but nonetheless its a very good album, recommended for fans of Bathory who want to hear a clone that actually adds something NEW to the music.. Very good 7/10
