Destructor
Maximum Destruction
[Listenable]
Originally released in 1985 on Auburn Records. This Cleveland, Ohio band once again remind crusty old thrashers of the 'good ol' days'. Take a healthy dose of heavy/ power metal like old Anvil, Trouble, Nasty Savage, and thrash like Whiplash, early Overkill, and early Megadeth (a bit). Yep, hard driving power/thrash.
Four bonus tracks from the 1988 'Decibel Casualties' demo, 2 live songs, and lyrics included for all the songs almost make up for the lack of intensity from the drummer. He plays great, he just doesn't POUND as hard as this album demands. Tight musicianship. Guitar has a fat, fuzzy, metal as hell tone. Vocals are gruff and shouted with high screams, like the American equivalent to Fleming Rasmussen of Artilley.
The main bad point why ChorazaiM is probably having difficulty deciding whether or not to post this review I bet are the lyrics to "Pounding Evil". The violent, anti-government, antiposer, anti- Communist feeling gets applied to "Satan" also. Ahem...Okay, if any of you listen to Trouble and can ignore their lyrics (you know, in one ear out the other), do the same for this track, as the riffs are pretty hot.
Best songs in my opinion are "Iron Curtain" (amazing solo) and "Smash Your Skulls". (Yeah! Smash Your Skulls with Power!!!)
Definitely an album that grows on you as the singer sounds haphazard, sort out of time, but I guess it was his style. Classic underground? Hmmm, after buying it, no. Sometimes things seem better at the time, but it's not that bad. Definitely NOT worth the import price I paid. Sheesh. I have to get my shit together and start getting mp3's!
