Kataklysm
Sorcery
[Nuclear Blast]
Another milestone in Canadian death metal, well, death metal period.
The term "northern hyperblast" came from this band. This album is easier to review by breaking it down Sauron style.
Vocals: Animalistic and insane courtesy of Sylvain Houde. Grunting and poweful with short bursts of speed. Also, bassist Maurizio adds his screamy vox to the mix. Truly awesome. 5/5
Guitars: Grindy. With some melodic riffs and leads. Very well done, but nothing out of this world 4.5/5
Bass: Simply backs up the music. Unimportant. 5/5
Drums: Fast with perfectly delivered blast beats. 5/5
Song writing: Twisted lyrics on the subjects of sorcerers, portals and the end of the world. The music is catchy and brutal. 5/5
Production: Not all that loud or thick, but it definetly delivers the perfect atmosphere for this release. 5/5
29.5/30 = A
