Cacophony
Speed Metal Symphony
[]
This particular record was released in 1987, and can be defined as
"Neo - classical Speed Metal". Here, the main musicians of this band are
the two guitar players: Marty Friedman (Later on Megadeth, playing guitar
and bass on this record) and the amazing Jason Becker (Awesome axe-man,
inspired from neo - classical heavy rock, the style spawned by Malmsteen).
It is basically a brilliant work of art, the lead guitars recorded are
among the fastest ever put on a tape, complex arrangements, crazy
harmonies, very technical amd advanced. Friedman's solos are similar as
later works with Megadeth, but here in Cacophony, Marty has i think more
freedom and more versatility, while in Megadeth he has a more "locked-in"
dynamic which adapts to the structure of the songs. Jason Becker is one of
the most brilliant guitar prodigies ever, and this CD demonstrates it
awesomely, VERY fast solos, incredible scales, and even a tapping which
emulates an arp in "Desert Island". Atma Anur, the drummer, is also very
good and adapts to the style perfectly, while the singer isn't what many
would consider good (too raspy, 80's style), but i think the vocals fit in
very well too. The songs are masterly crafted, brilliant structure and
rhythm, but also very heavy and agressive (must of the songs written by
Friedman), although the crazy dissonant poliphonies they made in some songs
are to much demential and don't fit with the songs very well. A classic
guitar-centered album, a must have for all you aspiring to be virtuoso
guitar players.
