(Note: the story that I used in this review is supposedly from the bible, I have NEVER read the accursed bible and I don’t recommend that you do. As for the story, well I saw it on TV…)
Let me start off this review with a very short story that, I think, is an accurate description of Satyr’s situation…
Samson an Israelite warrior who possessed great strength (solely because of his magically imbued long hair) killed many a Philistine in battle. The Philistines were not too happy about this, though, and hired Samson’s girlfriend Delilah to cut his magical hair and put out his eyes. She did, and he was consequently reduced to the same strength as a normal waste-of-flesh (a.k.a. human….), and blinded. The Philistines then proceeded in torturing and killing him. THE END.
Take the same story, replace ‘Strength’ with musical talent, Philistines with the record industry and the Black Metal scene, and remove Delilah, and you have got the story behind Satyr (who is obviously in the role of Samson…)… He cut his hair and instantly lost all of his musical talent! HAH! This CD is an abomination to true Black Metal as well, and if there has ever been a worse ‘Black Metal’ CD then this I’ve never heard of it before(Christian bands, Rip-off bands, and Satyr’s other abortion ‘Megiddo’ do not count as I don’t consider them ‘Black Metal’. This CD will soon join their ranks…). A total waste of time, this CD is more Industrial Metal then it is Black Metal, and a real slap in the face to people who liked the grim Black Metal that Satyricon used to play. The lyrics are even more insulting then the music, no more anthems about the cold north and warriors on horseback, just a bunch of crappy no-talent lyrics that barely fit the music. The packaging was done poorly, the production is very uninteresting, the music sucks, and the list goes on much further then that! I just don’t have the time or energy to list EVERYTHING that sucks about this CD… I’d be stuck at home for days on end.
Satyricon are just another name in the long list of Black Metal bands that have grown soft with time (Darkthrone, Mayhem, Einherjer, Dodheimsgard, Emperor, Katatonia, Burzum, Ulver, Bathory, Venom, etc. the list goes on…), please do yourself a favor and heed my advice, avoid this CD at all costs, nobody at all likes this crappy MCD and you probably won’t either… with the money you save you can actually buy a GOOD disc like Setherial’s ‘Nord…’ or Summoning’s ‘Lugburz’.
Pros – Okay drumming…
Cons – Just about everything besides the drumming… : [
Style of Music – It sucks… leave it at that.
Will likely appeal to – Nobody, I think…
Overall – Total crap… Horrible – 0/10
