Gateward
Lord Of Aium
[Shadow]
Now, this I like. Gateward could be a decent companion to their countrymen
Gods Tower. On this release they present us with five songs of blackened
pagan-doom metal with airy keyboards, deathy vocals, and exceptional riffs
and melodies. The songs are generally mid-paced except when the band
switches gears into the black metal mode as on "From Ancient Time" and
"Salvation Breath." Although I wish it was more powerful, the production is
fairly good and clear but still has a raw feel to it; the guitar sound gives
off a pleasant background fuzz, and periodic and non-intrusive use of
keyboards provides a softened touch.
"Lord Of Aium" is not a mindblowing release in any way. It is, however,
quite enjoyable. Their music may not express very original or complex ideas,
but these guys are honest about what they are doing, and that's what counts.
