Angel Of Light / Satanaquia
Gloria Patri
[Megatherion]
I really wouldn't recommend two bands with the same vocalist to bother attempting a split CD, for obvious reasons I'd think. No matter how different they may sound (and they don't here), the driving force of a vocalist can generally make everything sound the same.
Angel of Light play fairly typical norse style black metal with your high pitched vocals, keyboards aplenty, and so on. It actually reminds me a good deal of Setherial's "A Hail to the Faceless Angels" or even Behemoth's "Sventevith" LP, because of the thin production and similar riffing style - but less interesting of course. So it's not exactly brilliant, but not bad either - yet at the same time won't spend much time in my stereo.
Satanaquia are also heavy on the keyboards (with the same progression in every song: DAH, NAH, NAHHH), and use Mr. Count LaVey (…) on vocals as well, although for some reason he feels the need to use an "evil laughing witch imitation" every few seconds. Doesn't anyone realize that this sounds silly?!? If I wanted to listen to the wicked witch of the west (east?) heading a black metal band…well, I couldn't - and that's because nobody wants to hear it! Think old Necromantia but with much more prominent keyboards, a slight norse feel, and of course far less worthy (plus a wicked witch on vocals).
Shite basically - I probably should have headed to the boozer and wasted my money there instead of on this.
