This album inherited the throne that EMPEROR’s ”Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk”
left uninhabited; that is, the successor to the classic ”In the Nightside
Eclipse”.
”Nord” is fast, Swedish, melodic, yet sounding very much to that Norwegian direction of epic malevolence and fury of a demonstorm approaching in the distance. The fierceness that SETHERIAL captured in playing these songs surprises time after time and makes this a stand-out album amidst the mediocrity of most Swedish ”black metal”.
The production with it’s blasts and screeches is excellent. The vocalist also sounds quite fanatic here, but he lost it quite early on.
