I'm not going to question Therion's talent, but the appeal in this is hard for me to see. If they had let go of the distorted guitar, then this could not even have the last link to metal anymore, but the distorted guitar is still present, and thus they can maintain their last link to metal, although it is a tiny and fragile one, as what they present is not metal. One could argue that they are a metal band, playing classical music. As I am not to well versed in classical music I can't give you a precise assessment of their brand of classical, it's a rather symphonic one, so that would put them into what? Renaissance period classical or what? Hell I don't know, don't really care either... Therion is quite interesting and also enjoyable to some extent, but in the bottom line, it is not really recommendable if you are looking for metal.
