Ratos De Porao
Carniceria Tropical
[Alternative Tentacles]
You want heavy shit? Well this is pretty much that, a hyperblast combination of
Amebix punk-metal, Crass crunchy crustcore, Sepultura/Sarcofago sloppy
Brazilian speed thrash and ultra heavy grindcore, the sort of ‘90s hybrid sonic
annihilation that fellow label mates Logical Nonsense have claimed as their
domain.
Not a million miles away from a more metal Extreme Noise Terror or a more
downtuned and less death Carcass, RDP feature big-boy Gordo ( who has been
popping up in the new Soulfly as well as the new Sep disc with his mountainous
buffalo grunt) and a helluva lot of catchiness in their speed-stricken madness.
Hell, there’s even a whiny rap-grind track there on number 5, guesting some
Brazilian DJ and inspired scratches. Lyrically, this is all done in Portuguese but
presumably they tackled the many political, anti-militant and pro-life angles that
every damn Brazilian band cranks out.
It is undoubtedly a great work musically, showing a huge diversity and
unashamedness to mix up a variety of different paces in the songs on offer as well
as a uniform quality of songs that seem beyond even the best grind masters
(Benumb, Assuck, Hemdale have eluded this in my opinion) can’t quite grasp.
Pity ‘bout the sound though, but then again this is a punk record on a low-ish
Biafra budget so screw that.
Overall, I like this more than I did Napalm Death’s Words From The Exit
Wound or even Logical Nonsense’s new shit, and that’s saying quite a lot already.
A diverse grindcore band, if there ever was one.
