Gernoth
Oath Of Obeisance
[Independent]
Gernoth's (second?) offering is a little more atmospheric release with a
more (2nd wave) black metal feel, mixing straightforward thrashy speed with
some Emperor-esque esoteric riffing thrown in to make this a very
interesting release. Compositions are complex and keep the listener
interested for most of the song, only rarely does one feel, "hey, change
keys already," which can't be said for many bands. Keys are a bit more
prominent on this release, not simply aping the guitar riffs, but not
overpowering them either. A drum machine is still utilized, with some
impressive programming. The recording is, again, clear and most impressive
for a self release, but still remains dirty in classic black metal form.
