Morbid Saint
Spectrum of Death
[Grind Core]
This is a viciously charged U.S. thrash band that had a decent underground
following in the early 90s but never went anywhere. The style they play
offers more than a passing nod to the Teutonic underground of the 80s, the
music is similar to Destruction and Kreator, the vocals almost a dead ringer
for Mille Kreator's earlier work. Still, if you enjoyed those bands and can
get over the nasty production of this album, it's quire voracious and
enjoyable. This is a band that does not care to slow down very often, they
rage through tracks like "Lock Up Your Children", "Assassin", and "Damien"
without abandon. "Spectrum of Death" is notable for it's warped acoustic
intro and then the pounding thrash headache it delivers afterwards. Did I
mention the production of this album is terrible? Clear enough to make out
all the riffs but tinny as fuck. It appears that this album might have been a
bit dated when it was released, the liner notes say the songs were published
in 1988 but the album was released on Grind Core in 1992. At any rate, fans
of early Kreator and Destruction, Dark Angel, or Possessed will probably dig
this a lot for it's straightforward brutality.
