Running Wild
Under Jolly Roger
[Noise]
Moving on, the third album by this German supergroup was truly their landmark
piece. This release not only blew the first two albums out of the water (no
pun intended), but also put Running Wild on the land map (another pun). This
is sheer greatness, the title track opens this album with what is perhaps the
band's greatest anthem ever, complete with cannon fire in the choruses and
Rock'n'Rolf's demonic laughter resounding. There is a constant barrage of
catchy power/thrash songs like "War in the Gutter", "Beggar's Night", and
"Diamonds of the Black Chest", plus the motorcycle riding anthem "Raw Ride"
which is strikingly reminiscent of what Motley Crue were doing at this time.
The slow, doomed "Land of Ice" and the headbanging "Raise Your Fist" round
off this album nicely. This is the first album the band could be truly proud
of, not only powerfully executed but a great deal of fun. Great things were
in store for them. An absolute necessity for all true fans of power metal.
