Mass Psychosis
Necroporno
[Still Dead]
Mass Psychosis can make you feel like a metalhead again. The lyrics and artwork are gore metal, yes, but the death metal within is mature, technical, and fucking brutal. "Zombiechrist", for example, has a riff that reminds me of Morbid Angel's "Immortal Rites", while the chorus echoes old Deicide. Good stuff!
The vocalist is the best part of the music though. He has the strong, yet typical death grunt, but also uses a lot of higher pitched screaming techniques, an older Mustaine imitation…and an over the top Tom Warrior style. It's no less than amazing when he does this Warrior style of vocals…it fucking DESTROYS!!!
The music is surprisingly mature, and might even have a classical basis. Listen to the solo in "Zombiechrist" for example, or the shockingly non-metal acoustic guitar track "Bleeding Hearts". Basically "Necroporno" doesn't have much staying power, but it's an impressive album none the less, and worth picking up.
