Goatlord
Reflections of the Solstice
[Turbo]
One of the reasons the vinyl format is appreciated by many is that artwork, if suitable, looks a good deal better than on a CD or cassette. Obviously because it's LARGER. "Reflections of the Solstice", an album I have on both LP and Picture Disc, has an amazing cover. Warrior of Satan riding away on his goat drawn carriage from the castle = impressive. Some of you will remember that this album was re-released on JL America with TERRIBLE cover art (ghoul eating a bone = stupid). I can't remember if the track listing was the same (songs like "Acid Orgy" and Chicken Dance" were on it though), but I remember being confused as to why it said "Thanks to JL for blowing the European version of this album away". This version is far superior.
Goatlord were definitely a US black metal band to the underground during the early 90s, right up there with Profantica. While they were tagged "black" by the press at the time, today's scene would most likely consider the trio to be a death metal band, a primitive one at that. SLOW riffs, mid-paced drumming (although at times the guitars and drums do the exact opposite) mixed in with DEEP vocals. Evil Metal from Las Vegas? We'll probably never seen it done again, but Goatlord do rule in a proto-black metal/evil death metal way.
