Unsung Heroes Records Sampler Collection 1
[Unsung Heroes]
Good sampler of bands associated with Lord Vic. Unfortunately the sound
isn't too hot as he dubbed this onto CD from cassette, so as if someone
is actually interested in a band, they'll be surprised with better sound
quality when they get that individual release.
RAMPAGE
- "Satanic Death", fast and brutal old school death/thrash, i.e.
Possessed, Exodus
- "DeadRot", grindcore death metal, as heavy as Repulsion or the
first Napalm death lp.
- "Ticket to Hell", slow grindy descending riff. Simple brutal
death metal with gore tinged yet decipherable vocals.
FESTERING SORE
- "Cellar of Horror", early Death demo sound with an early
Slayer feel, pretty cool
- "Human Cattle", a trouble making 'I'll fuck you up"-type
of song. Mixes a slow riff with an uptempo 'mosh' type riff. Fuckin
heavy (and the vocals sound like Rampage.Hmmmm)
GORTICIAN
- "Orgy with the Dead", freakin insane death metal, like no
production, rehearsal mixing board quality, if that. 'Musically', I
can't compare this to anyone, maybe the Deceased demo"The Evil Side
of Religion"?
- "Vagina Dentata", ok. What the fuck?! The sloppy drumbeat
makes me recall a LOT of demo tapes I got rid of in the late 80s/early
90s. In small doses it's ok, just I've heard it sooo much in the past.
DISJECTA MEMBRA
- "Earth & Stone", in between sludgy stoner rock (Sabbath,
Danzig) and perhaps older Metallica. This is from 1992?? Vocals are
phlegmmy and hoarse.
- "Eye of the Hellstorm", covered on a Rampage CD, is a
classic tune to raise your fist and bang your skull to. A cross of power
metal and NWOBHM.
EARLY WARNING
- "Narcissism", "North Breeze", "Dance of the Snake", is
like very good Maiden with Dickinson. Great songs, great playing, great
solos. I've heard too many shitty Maiden wannabe's, but Early Warning
were pretty cool. Underproduced, but better than Iced earth, Gamma Ray,
and all these modern polished bands. The songs would fit right in on
"Killers".
T.G.W.W.B.T.M. (The Guys Who Wear Black Too Much)
- "TGWWBTM's N Tha House",
hilarious metal rap, old school hip hop. Has to be heard to be believed.
Ending this 70 minute disc is SKIPTOE- "End of Oppression", "Awakened",
"Suffocation", and "Shatter My Faith", aggressive pre-Rampage thrash.
Sort of crossover, moshy, cool guitar solos and driving bass, as heavy
as Carnivore or Sacred Reich's slower tunes. Only bad point besides the
predictable song writing is the singer. Sounds like a bad White Power
vocalist, even worse than George Burdi (Rahowa) singing at a show!
Decent compilation, look forward to what else comes out, cuz they're
pretty damn affordable.
