Toranaga
God's Gift
[Chrysalis]
I forgot about this British act til I bought this used recently. I had
a BBC session of them in a tape trade ten years ago, and thought they were
decent, but never picked this up. Reminds me a lot of old Metal Church,
due to song structures and Mark Duffy's rough vocals. One or more
members used to be in a punkmetal band The Desecrators, who were on the
Peaceville flexi-disc "Will Evil Win?" with the cool track "Ban on
Impurity" (the other bands were Civilised Society?, Lord Crucifier, and
Annihilated, whose 12"4 song EP "Path to Destruction" was a great slab of
thrash that didn't copy Metallica or Slayer).
Toranaga display a lot of class and talent on this 1990 CD. If you like
old school power metal/thrash, and have worn out Metal Church's "The
Dark", Overkill's "Feel the Fire", HEXX's debut (wish I still had that
one!), pick this up. Their doomy parts are done just as well as Trouble,
Cirith Ungol, or Savatage's cooler moments.
