Turmoil
The Process of...
[Century Media]
The fact that Century Media chose to sign a band like Turmoil is perplexing
and startling at the same time. It demonstrates, however, that there are
still a couple of people on the label's employment roster who know something
about music. But let us talk about Turmoil who produced a very impressive
album worth of raging, blistering metalcore of the highest quality. Since I
wasn't really familiar with the band prior to this record, my initial
expectations weren't too high when I was preparing to listen to it. "Just
another metalized hardcore band," - I thought. Man, was the joke on me or
what! Turmoil are one of the very best representatives of the genre. "The
Process of..." dynamically combines sweeping hardcore intensity with parcels
of death metal and even sludge (as on "Impending Doom Theory") to the effect
of maximum carnage. The band proficiently walk a fine line between brutality
and diversity which makes them so much more fun to listen to than, say, the
conveyor belt monotony of Earth Crisis. I wholeheartedly recommend this disc
to the hardcore kids and metalheads alike. Turmoil weren't tagged "the
VoiVod of hardcore" for nothing.
