Samael
1987-1992
[Century Media]
A re-issue of Samael's first two albums "Worship Him" and "Blood Ritual"
recorded in 1990 and 1992 respectively. Yeah I know, it's on Century Media,
but that way you can save money by getting this double CD instead of buying
each of these recordings individually. These albums are light years away
from what Samael are pushing now. Instead of the electronic/industrial
fetish they promote nowadays, early Samael produced some classic black metal,
different from today's standard. Doomy, slow-motioned with just a few fast
parts, plainly structured music that takes inspiration from the legendary
proto-black metal gods Bathory and Celtic Frost, but there is this primeval
darkness and evil emanating from it. Today, it all sounds very outdated and
unsophisticated, but I just love it. Hear how it used to be done when black
metal was in its infancy, and shed a tear for the long-gone times when it was
still fresh and underground.
