Rebellion Is The Art Of Survival
[Hammerheart]
I had no information on this band what's so ever, not even where they are
from because I got a promo copy of the album, so I did some research on the
net. The band, formed from the remains of Buried Beneath in the mid-1990's,
are from upstate New York and this is their second release for Hammerheart.
Musically, this is a very European, particularly Swedish, sounding, melodic
black metal with some Merciful Fate thrown in for the good measure. It's
sort of epic, with very long songs ranging from 10 to 14 minutes in length.
On one hand, the sheer length lets the songs breath and allows the band to
freely utilize whatever ideas they have to offer. On the other hand, the
band just doesn't have enough good ideas to fill a 73 minute long album, and
the songs fail to keep you interested for their entire duration. I guess
"Rebellion..." is still an exceptional album, but not exceptional enough to
spend money on it.
